The CRES ARC held a lunch meeting in the Franklin room on 20 Jan 1999. The meeting was called to order by President Jerry Scott/K9RV at 11:40 AM. Those present included: K9RV, KD8ZG, WD8EBS, WB9PXH, KE8QN, WD8CZG, and KD8WK. Rob Stampfli/KD8WK reported the previous minutes incorrectly reported that Doug Needham/KA8ZRT was interested in putting his 440 Mhz repeater on the air from the plant. Indeed, it was Doug Svitchen/N8IQT who made the proposal, and the official minutes have been corrected to reflect this. With this change, the minutes were approved. Rob also reported the balance in our checking account was $711.17, which does not include collected but undeposited dues of $110 nor the Telhio end-of-year interest payment. In addition, the petty cash fund sits at $16.15. Rob indicated he waited until the meeting to make a deposit in hopes of acquiring a few more payments, and the dues will be deposited today. The club currently has 12 paid-up members, so it's time to get your club dues monies in for 1999. The treasurer's report was approved. In old business, Gordy Lashley/WD8CZG requested the club expend $69.00 plus S&H to acquire a windows version of the software used to program the repeater. It will replace the DOS version, which has an inconvenient human interface. Art Grandle/KD8ZG moved that up to $80.00 be allocated for this. The motion was seconded and passed. Vice President Mike Stansbery/WD8EBS indicated he still needs a club room key and outgoing Trustee Bob Kenyon/K8LJ still needs to get his room key to Art Grandle. Bill Ludwig indicated that if Bob could get the key to either him or Art, he would take care of the paperwork. Rob indicated the door code to the club room will be changed this afternoon. Remember, if you acquire the new door code, it is verboten to give it out to anyone else yourself, even if you know them to be a paid-up member -- only Rob can give out the door code. In new business, discussion ensued as to what programs could be offered to entice the membership to come to meetings. Several suggestions were made including having a show-and-tell for new and/or interesting radio gear (which will be the topic of the February meeting), holding a clue driven fox hunt (April or May), and inviting local experts to talk on selected topics of interest. Rob reported that one leg of the trapped dipole on the roof is down. Bill reported that the Mansfield hamfest is Feb 14th this year. Info on car pooling will be forthcoming. Art indicated the next VE Exam session will likely be held on April 10th. The meeting was adjourned at 12:15. The next meeting will be held in the Franklin room at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, February 17th. Please mark this date on your calendars. Respectfully submitted, Rob Stampfli CRES-ARC Secretary =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Addendum: As some of you know, I recently returned from a Caribbean cruise. One of the things I did while on the ship was venture down to the radio room and talk to the chief radio officer. I was interested in seeing what kind of equipment they had, and was shocked to find out that the radio room really doesn't have any radios anymore. Everything is now handled via Satellite. The radio officer told me his job mainly consists of keeping the computers up and running. They do have a couple VHF radios on the bridge to communicate with the tugs while in the harbor, but that's about it. Gee, I guess technology is passing us hams by.
