The CRES Amateur Radio Club held a meeting over lunch on Wednesday, 18 April 2001. The meeting was called to order by President Gordy Lashley/WD8CZG at 11:40 AM. Those in attendance were: WD8CZG, K8TWH, N9CX, K9RV, WB9PXH, K8RSP, KD8WK, NV7X, and K8ON. The revised minutes from the March meeting were accepted as mailed. The Treasurer reported $953.37 in checking, $23.61 in petty cash, and $40 in undeposited dues. Dave Woolf/K8RSP reported on the repeater: A lot has been done in the past months. Voter adjustments were made for levels that were too hot, which caused the crackling and popping noises in months past. The levels are still being looked at, and may be adjusted down further as the volume pots on the voter card are adjusted to the extreme. The repeater committee (Dave, Art Grandle/KD8ZG, and Jerry SCOTT/K9RV) recently checked the receive cavity and found it tuned correctly. The transmit cavity will not be checked until a better network analyzer can be obtained. The transmitter is putting out 100 watts, and 64 watts are coming out of the duplexor. This 2db loss was judged acceptable. SWR to the antenna was perfect, although this may itself indicate a problem, since we believe there is about a 2:1 SWR at the antenna. The receiver sometimes appears to lose sensitivity, and that is being investigated. We may decide later this year to install the new coil on the antenna, replacing the repaired on, on the chance that it may be intermittent and causing the receiver problems. The Control receiver probably has a bad COR, which also needs to be looked at. Jerry reported the club held a successful VE session on April 7th. Two people upgraded to Extra class, 2 to General, 4 new Techs, and 2 paperwork-only upgrades. The club is pleased to report that one of our own -- Dave Woolf -- upgraded to Extra class at this session. It was reported that two of today's attendees have changed their call signs recently: Dave Jeffords (from KC8ORL to K8ON) and Tom Hartwell (from N8YXK to K8TWH). Dave Woolf mentioned that there is a weekly net for Bell System employees. He will get the time and frequency information. Gordy asked Lab Manager Jerry Scott to produce an inventory of club property. Vice President Dave Jeffords talked about upcoming meetings: For our May meeting, we expect to have an employee of AEP present to speak about power line interference and how AEP addresses it. This will be an on-premises meeting, the date still to be determined. In June, we will have an off-premises meeting on Saturday, June 9th, at 3:30 PM at Universay Amateur Radio. Universal will showcase their latest ham gear to interested club members. All are invited. Please put this date on your calendars. (We will have a regular June meeting as well in preparation for Field Day.) Gordy indicated he is still looking for someone to serve as chair of the Field Day activites. Gordy asked Secretary/Treasurer Rob Stampfli to implement an auto- reminder emailer for future club meetings. Gordy proposed sending a $25 donation to the www.qsl.net people who allow us to maintain an external web site on their system. A motion to that effect was made by Dave Woolf, seconded by Dave Jeffords, and carried. Gordy will get the Secretary/Treasurer the mailing address. Mike Rauh/NV7X was introduced as a new employee to this location. Welcome Mike! Gordy reported that there will be a severe weather talk at the Groveport Community Center, Madison Twp, on April 25th at 9:30 to Noon. See Gordy if you are interested in attending. The meeting was adjoured at 12:35 PM. Respectfully submitted, Rob Stampfli Secretary/Treasurer CRES-ARC
