The CRES Amateur Radio Club held a dinner meeting at Donatos Pizza, 1391 East Johnstown Road, Gahanna, OH, on 15 May 2002. The meeting was called to order by President Mike Stansbery/WD8EBS at 7:10 PM. The following people were in attendance: NV7X, N4DB, WD8EBS, KD8ZG, K8KJ, N9CX, K9RV, WA8LBZ, KD8BJ, W8FMN, N8ZOG, N8ZKU, K8RSP, K8AX, K8ON, KC8HIH, and KD8WK. Although it was not announced at the meeting, the Treasurer reports that the Club currently has $1,008.50 in our Telhio account and $31.44 in the petty cash account, plus $20 in undeposited dues. WD8EBS announced that the Thursday, May 30th, net will be held at 8:30 PM instead of 7:00 PM at the request of net control Carl Yaffey/K8NU. Several Field Day concerns were discussed: + Art Grandle/KD8ZG will provide a generator unless a more efficient one can be acquired. The Club will pay for gas. Art claims the generator is much less efficient than the Honda we are used to and will burn a gallon of gas every 3-4 hours. + If you have a CW station you would not mind loaning the Club for our second station, please contact either Stu Steenburgh/KB8DEO or Mike Stansbery/WD8EBS. + We held some discussions on how to best house the CW station: In years past, we have rented a truck, but Art indicated a change in pricing policy now precludes this option. We are looking at setting up some sort of tent. + WD8EBS indicated he would like to see us try to make a Satellite contact. + Only Lucent/Celestica employees will be allowed in the building to get our equipment. Mike and Stu will coordinate this aspect of the setup. If you are an employee and would like to help out, contact one of them. (Any Club member (and guests) will be allowed at the Field Day site.) + The Club will provide refreshments, pizzas on Saturday evening, and donuts Sunday morning for our Field Day participants. If you want something else for yourself feel free to bring it, but please, nothing stronger than soft drinks! Dayton info: The Club 2-meter frequency at the Hamvention will be 145.700 Mhz (simplex). Use of PL (131.8 Hz) is optional, but those who can should consider using it for encoding so everyone can hear you. Dave Woolf/K8RSP announced an old Club member, Charlie Selkow/ W8FXB, will be in town around the first week of June. Dave will be setting up a luncheon for those who know Charlie and are interested. Contact Dave if you'd like to be included. Although it was not announced at the meeting, afterwards Tricia Kovacs/KC8HIH and interested members met and concluded that Saturday, June 29th, would be the preferred date for a combined Ham Radio and Biking event. The event will be a short (15-20 mile) bike ride on a relatively flat biking path combined with a demonstration of ham radio, and we'll reschedule in the event of inclement weather. This will provide a chance for our Club members to enjoy a short bike ride and introduce our hobby to members of the CRES Biking Club and perhaps others. More information will be forthcoming. The meeting was adjourned at 7:30 PM. After the meeting, Bill Erwin/N9CX spent an hour delivering a fascinating program about his experiences with building a linear amplifier, including all aspects from safety, to acquiring part, to assembly, to operating. The presentation was enjoyed by all. Respectfully submitted, Rob Stampfli/KD8WK CRES-ARC Secretary/Treasurer
