The Executive Committee of the CRES Amateur Radio Club met on 19 November 2003. The meeting was held at the Donatos Pizza in Pickerington and was attended by President David Jeffords/K8ON, Sec/Treas Rob Stampfli/KD8WK, Equipment Manager Stu Steenburgh/KB8DEO, VE Liaison Art Grandle/KD8ZG, Station Trustee Mike Rauh/NV7X, Immediate Past President Mike Stansbery/WD8EBS, and Dave Woolf/K8RSP. The meeting was called to order by K8ON at 6:30 PM. The first order of business was to discuss the, at times, increasingly degraded audio on the W8ZPF repeater. Many users have pointed out that audio from the main site is distorted with noise on voice peaks. KD8ZG and others felt the problems were likely due to the voter, although KD8WK believes it could be in the demodulator of the main site's receiver. KD8WK cautioned we should not invest in a new voter simply on speculation, and proposed a committee be set up to study the problem and make a recommendation, which would include proposing a specific replacement for the voter if that turned out to be the best solution. KD8ZG, KB8DEO, and K8RSP agreed to serve on this committee. Additionally, WD8EBS and KD8WK also offered to assist with testing as needed. Next, a discussion was held regarding whether the repeater, as it is currently configured, could be placed in receive-CTCSS mode. There have been an increasing number of incidents where slow-scan from Cincinnati have brought up the machine. K8RSP indicated there are two codes that affect receive-CTCSS in various ways, and neither appears to work as intended today. The committee decided that we should discuss this topic at our next general meeting to better understand what the membership desires with respect to a policy of running receive-CTCSS on the machine, either occasionally or on a permanent basis, before proceeding. WD8EBS reported for the Nominations Committee, consisting of himself, Al Mecozzi/WA8LBZ and Jim Yoder/W8ERW. The committee nominated the following members who have all been contacted and are willing to serve as officers for next year: President - Jack Kirkpatrick/KC8TM Vice President - Tricia Kovacs/KC8HIH Sec/Treas - Rob Stampfli/KD8WK Equip Manager - Stu Steenburgh/KB8DEO Those present agreed this is a good slate. The officers thanked the committee for their diligent work. K8ON read a report from Jerry Scott/K9RV, who was unable to attend the meeting. Jerry reported he expected there to be a exceptional number of CB entries for this year's CQ-WE contest. He did have to correct a few scores which were calculated incorrectly, and wished to remind everyone that they must include a dollar if they want a certificate. (One contestant, jokingly or not, literally enclosed a green postage stamp.) He reminded everyone once again that the score sheets must be submitted by 1 December to be counted. The officers set a date of Wednesday, 10 December, for our 4th quarter general meeting. A quick check with the management of Pickerington Donatos confirmed their private meeting room was available for a meeting on the 10th, and we reserved it. We will meet at 6:00 PM for pizza dinner, followed by our business meeting, including the election of next year's officers, and holiday socializing. KD8WK suggested the club consider hosting next year's CQ-WE contest. Although the idea was generally popular among the officers, provided there are a sufficient number of volunteers, it was decided to put the question to the membership at the general meeting for a final determination. KD8ZG reported the Club's December VE Exam session will be held at Parkview Presbyterian church on Saturday, 6 December. At this time, VE staffing looks adequate. NV7X said he had received several QSL cards from stations that had contacted the club's station during Field Day. He needed QSL cards to mail back. KD8WK said he had some of the club's old QSL cards, and NV7X picked them up from him after the meeting. The meeting was adjourned at 7:40 PM. Respectfully submitted, Rob Stampfli CRES-ARC Sec/Treas
