The CRES Amateur Radio Club held its first quarter general meeting of the 2006 calendar year at the New Albany Library on Wednesday, 22 March 2006. Those in attendance were: President Bill Erwin/N9CX, Vice President David Brown/K8AX, Secretary/Treasurer Rob Stampfli/ KD8WK, Contest Coordinator Carl Yaffey/K8NU, VE Coordinator Art Grandle/KD8ZG, Past President Tricia Kovacs/KC8HIH and members K8KJ, WA8LBZ, K8TX, KD8BJ, W8AGS, W3CRZ, K8RSP, K8ON, W8RJM, W8REW, K8LE, K8LJ, and N4DLR. Bill Erwin called the business portion of the meeting to order promptly at 7:00 PM. Our newest member, George Foy/N4DLR, who joined the club just prior to tonight's meeting, was recognized. The minutes of the December meeting were approved, along with the Treasurer's Report, which reported the club had $177.39 in the cash account, $2547.31 in Telhio savings, and $4361.33 in CDs. The audit of the club's financials for FY 2003 - 2005 has been completed, and the Treasurer, on behalf of the club, wishes to thank Dave Brown, David Jeffords/K8ON, and Tricia Kovacs for the time and efforts they expended in performing the audit. Reports from the standing committees: Repeater: Dave Woolf/K8RSP reported the repeater was generally in good shape, although there seems to be a sensitivity problem, suspected to be in the link receiver at the main site, which the committee is studying. VE Team: Art Grandle reported we will be holding a ham radio exam session on April 1. Those VEs desiring to attend the team breakfast should meet at the Cracker Barrel Restaurant (SR 204 & SR 256) at 7:30 AM on the 1st. Otherwise, VEs are asked to be at the site, Parkview Presbyterian Church, at 8:45 AM. Field Day: Bob Cartwright/W3CRZ reported he is (1) looking for suggestions for things to do, (2) looking for helpers, and (3) looking into putting together an order for Field Day club shirts and pins. Carl Yaffey announced he had brought some floppy disks to the meeting and anyone who wanted them could help themselves. Dave Woolf reported we could use Parkview Presbyterian Church for our next presentation (it has a VGA projector which Carl needs), but the church will be undergoing a significant construction project at that time. Tricia Kovacs offered to provide a portable projector borrowed from her employer as an alternative. Dave Woolf reported he had repaired the Marconi deviation meter and would bring it to a future meeting so that those who wanted to bring in their rigs could check and adjust their deviation, power output, and receiver sensitivity. Tricia announced that she was close to locking in Friday, April 21, for a tour of the WOSU transmitter facility at the Fawcett Center on Olentangy River Road. The tour will be at noon and take about an hour. Tricia also displayed an updated club flyer she had created for advertizing the club to prospective members. Dave Brown presented the topics for our upcoming meetings: Our next general meeting, in June, will feature Carl Yaffey (perhaps with some assistance from Dave Woolf and Bob Kenyon/K8LJ) speaking on "An Intro to Amateur Satellites." In September, Mike Rauh/W8GT will give a talk on "What's Wrong with our Present-Day Receivers?" Finally, the December meeting will feature a Dave Woolf and Bob Kenyon presentation on antenna modelling programs. The meeting was adjourned at 7:20 PM, after which Dave Brown and Al Mecozzi/WA8LBZ presented a program consisting of a photo-tour of member hamshacks and antenna farms with each participant in turn describing his or her station. Respectfully submitted, Rob Stampfli/KD8WK CRES-ARC Secretary/Treasurer
