The CRES Amateur Radio Club held a general membership meeting on Tuesday, 21 October 2008, at the New Albany library. The following members were in attendance: President Bill Erwin/N9CX, Vice President Dave Brown/K8AX, Secretary/Treasurer Rob Stampfli/KD8WK, Trustee Dave Woolf/K8RSP, VE Liaison Art Grandle/KD8ZG, Contest Coordinator Bob Cartwright/W3CRZ, Internet Manager Gordy Lashley/WD8CZG, members WA8LBZ, K8LE, W8AGS, WA8PGE, K8LJ, N8WL, KC8DJR, WD8EBS, W8NFT, N4HAI, N4DLR, and guests Paul Meyers/N2OPW, Pete Elliott/KC8MIG, Weldon Mathews/K8NQ, and Mike Riggins (this meeting's guest speaker). The meeting was called to order by President Bill Erwin at 7:02 PM. Our visitors were introduced. The Secretary's report from the prior meeting was approved. Rob reported the Club has $1,003.31 in our Telhio checking/savings account, $142.39 in our cash account, and a bit more than $7500 in CDs. We currently have 39 active members. To date this year, we have brought in $1,311.94, of which $885 can be characterized as a one-time event from the sale of our tower equipment. We have expended $1,158.56, of which abut $800 can be characterized as a one time expense -- most notably, this included the purchase of the club projector. The Treasurer's report was approved. Dave Woolf reported that the repeater is working well. Art had found a suitable amplifier at Findlay which has been installed on the repeater, significantly increasing its output. (66W out, 44W at coax to antenna.) Art Grandle reported the VE team will be giving its next exams at the Parkview Presbyterian Church on either the 1st or 2nd Saturday in December. He'd like to see 6-8 VEs at that session. There was no old business. New business: Bill indicated that he would like to see a Treasurer's audit be conducted before the year's end, and asked for volunteers. The last audit was conducted 3 years ago. Gordy volunteered. In addition, Tricia Kovacs/KC8HIH had previously agreed to serve on such a committee. Rob stated that he would likely not be the Treasurer next year, and suggested that this audit be conducted close to year end and that it serve as the transition point between him and the new Treasurer. However, Bill stated he would like to see the audit conducted sooner so that it could be concluded before he leaves office. Rob remained concerned that an audit should be performed at the point of transition. Otherwise it would logically necessitate a second audit be conducted then. Bill next requested volunteers for a Nominations committee, to provide a slate of officers to provide a slate of officers for our elections, which will be held in December. The elected positions are President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Bill indicated he would take over if, a week before the meeting, the committee had been unable to fill the positions. After no one volunteered, Rob reluctantly agreed to serve on the Nominations committee. The meeting was adjourned at 7:22 PM. After the meeting, Al Mecozzi presented a slide show of the Club's OSPOTA event at Buckeye State Park last month. Antique radio collector Mike Riggins then spoke about his experiences with restoring old radios, and Dave Brown walked us through a document by former club member Jim Hanlon on the repair and restoral of old radios. Finally Mike and several club members showed off their antiques.
