The CRES Amateur Radio Club held its sixth general membership meeting of the year on Tuesday, 09 December 2009, at the New Albany library. The following members and guests were in attendance: Bill Erwin / N9CX (President) Bob Kenyon / K8LJ (Vice President) Rob Stampfli / KD8WK (Secretary) Bob Cartwright / W3CRZ (Treasurer) Dave Woolf / K8RSP (Station Trustee) Art Grandle / KD8ZG (VE Liaison) Al Mecozzi / WA8LBZ Steven Pezzi / K8PEZ (guest) Dave Blake / N4DB George Foy / N4DLR Tom Foy / N4HAI Doug Gibbs / W8NFT Kevin Howard / KD8DNO (guest and speaker) Mike Mickelson / KD8DZ (speaker) Weldon Mathews / K8NQ Steven Katz / N8WL Mike Rauh / W8GT Tricia Kovacs / KC8HIH Dave Brown / K8AX David Jeffords / K8ON Mike Stansbery / WD8EBS Andy Elliott / K8LE Carl Yaffey / K8NU Dennis Agin / N8ILN John Wronski / AB8TX Joe Knapp / New Ham Duane Vanone / KD8LUW The meeting was called to order by President Bill Erwin at 7:00 PM. New people: Joe Knapp, a new ham who passed all three exams to earn an Extra class license at our last VE session, and Dennis Agin/N8ILN, who is interested in getting reinvolved in ham radio. The minutes of the last meeting were approved. Treasurer's report: The current net worth for the club is $8,960.11. Bob is now taking dues for the 2010 calendar year. In addition he passed around the "CB" results for CQ-WE. (Our location is designated Columbus, or "CB", in the contest.) Repeater: Dave Woolf reported we lost our final power amp on the repeater last month and we are currently running on our 15W intermediate amp. Dave has purchased a commercial GE 110W continuous duty amp, and will place it in-line soon. It's output will be set at about 100W, providing an 8 db improvment over the current signal and allowing the repeater to once again achieve its coordinated Effective Radiated Power of 250W. VE Team: Art Grandle reported we had 10 candidates and 9 examiners at this past Saturday's test session. All but one candidate passed something. One of the candidates was Joe Knapp (mentioned above), who attended our meeting for the first time tonight. In total we had 5 people earn a Tech license, 2 a General, and 2 and Extra. Our next exam session will be in early April, probably Saturday, April 3rd. New Business: Rob mentioned that the Club had previously agreed to be the host location for this year's CQ-WE contest. The main job of the host is to design and disseminate a certificate of participation to all contestants. We need to begin thinking of forming a committee for that purpose. Art Grandle gave a synopsis of what the contest is about and how it is conducted. Nominating Committee: Bill Erwin stated that the President is a de facto member of every Club committee, and since no one else stepped forward to serve on the Nominations Committee, Bill undertook the task himself. He first asked for nominations from the floor. There were none. He then announced the slate: President: Dave Woolf / K8RSP Vice President: Bob Kenyon / K8LJ Secretary: Rob Stampfli / KD8WK Treasurer: Bob Cartwright / W3CRZ Bill asked again for other nominations and again there were none. Art motions and Al seconds that the slate be approved by acclimation, and this was done with no dissents. The meeting was adjourned at 7:22 PM, after which club member Mike Mickelson/KD8DZ and Kevin Howard/KD8DNO gave interesting and enlightening talks on GPS and APRS respectedly. Respectfully submitted, Rob Stampfli / KD8WK CRES-ARC Secretary
