The Executive Committee of the CRES Amateur Radio Club met at 6:00 PM on Monday 22 March 2010. Those present were: President Dave Woolf/K8RSP, Vice President Bob Kenyon/K8LJ, Secretary Rob Stampfli/KD8WK, Treasurer Bob Cartwright/W3CRZ, Past President Bill Erwin/N9CX, Art Grandle/KD8ZG, and Tate Antrim/KD8HJA. The first order of business was to approve the Directors for the 2010 calendar year. K8RSP suggested that, since he was wearing many hats this year, he should step down as Repeater Chair, and suggested Mike Stansbery/WD8EBS be installed in his stead if Mike was amenable to accepting the position. K8LJ motions that the following director appointments be approved: Trustee: K8RSP Repeater Chair: WD8EBS (if he agrees) Contest Coordinator: Open VE Liaison: KD8ZG Internet Manager; KD8HJA The motion carried unanimously. A question was raised as to whether N9CX could cast a vote in the above decision. Although the Past-President position is the one directorship that does not have to be appointed and/or approved, after reviewing the Constitution, the Secretary believes that, as the Constitution states that the remaining Directors shall be appointed by "the Officers", and since the Past President is not an Officer, his vote should not be counted for the approval of the appointed Directors. Next, the question of how to handle the Club's agreement to serve as host location for this year's CQ-WE contest was discussed. W3CRZ agreed to serve as chair for this event. Since it is the 50th anniversary of the contest, we wanted to issue certificates that would stand out as being a bit special. KD8WK suggested that the certificate's background consist of a collage of former certificates issued in the contest. K8RSP thought Woody DeByle's QSL card be included as a tribute to a Columbus Works employee who played a significant role in getting the contest going 50 years ago. K8LJ thought his wife might agree to lay out the certificate. Those people who would like to offer to loan their former CQ-WE certs for inclusion as part of the collage that is expected to comprise the background image of the certificate should send a list of what they have to KD8ZG who will let them know what is needed. Field Day: We next discussed what to do about Field Day. Since no one has come forward with an alternative site yet, we elected to reserve the site we have used for the past two years at the Infirmary Mound Park near Granville again. K8LJ will make the reservations. N9CX said we should request more trash receptacles. VE Program: KD8ZG stated we will have a VE session on Saturday, April 10th, at Parkview Presbyterian Church in Reynoldsburg. There will be a breakfast meeting beforehand. This session will be conducted through the ARRL-VEC, at the cost of $15 per applicant. However, Art stated that another VEC, the Laurel, has VE teams in Ohio, and they do not impose a charge for administering VE exams. In fact, a free exam session will be offered in Columbus on April 24th. Art has exchanged emails with Jim Weaver of the ARRL on the subject. Unfortunately, the ARRL is not amenable to allowing us to reduce the $15 fees. Art suggested we investigate the LARC-VEC further with the thought of affiliating with them and this met with the general consensus of those present. KD8WK produced a copy of an old club award certificate the the CRES-ARC used to issue to members who had worked 10 other club members (with stickers for each additional 10 members worked). He suggested the Club consider reinstating the certificate. QSL cards could be used as proof of contact, and members could bring the cards to a meeting in order to be issued a certificate. The consensus was that these certificates would be a good thing to do within the Club to get people on the air and talking to other members. N9CX stated we still very much need a Contest Coordinator, but the amount of work the job description currently entails is too great for one person. We need to rethink the responsibilities and share them. Perhaps the Contest Coordinator responsibilities should be pared down to the following: - Collecting and submitting the Field Day logs for the Club - Collecting and submitting the OSPOTA logs for the Club - Serving as the location CB CQ-WE location coordinator - Handling the new Club Award Certificates We next briefly discussed the programming for the remainder of the year. K8LJ indicated the program committee was finalizing the program for April and in general things are going OK. The meeting was adjourned at 6:53 PM. Respectfully submitted, Rob Stampfli / KD8WK CRES-ARC Secretary
