The CRES Amateur Radio Club held its first general membership meeting of the year on Monday, 22 March 2010, at the New Albany library. This meeting was originally scheduled for Tuesday, 16 February, but was postponed on account of the weather. There were no first- timers to introduce themselves. KD8WK gave a synopsis of the minutes of the last meeting. W3CRZ did the same for the Treasurer's report, indicating the club had a grand total of $9,238.13 in the bank and a total of 29 paid members. Bob also indicated the club took 3rd place in the OSPOTA contest for multi-op low-power stations. He also indicated he had a free ticket to the Athens and Jackson County hamfests if anyone wanted them. KD8ZG indicated our next VE exam session will be held on Saturday, April 10th, at Parkview Presbyterian Church. There will be a breakfast meeting at 7:30 for those wishing to meet before the exams. Art also indicated he is investigating our VE team affiliating with the Laurel VEC out of Maryland because they sponsor free exams. It was announced that W3CRZ will lead the team that will produce the CQ-WE certificates and a request was made for volunteers to assist. K8LJ said he will ask his wife to help with the design of the cert. It was announced that, barring unforeseen circumstance, we will once again have our Field Day event at the Infirmary Mound Park on SR37 near Granville. K8LJ introduced his friend and guest Dick Leffler/W8RLL. N8WL urged everyone to follow up on the recent ARRL mailing about faxing US Representatives Henry Waxman and Joe Barton to urge them to release Senate bill S.1755. This bill includes legislation to allow the Department of Homeland Security to study the extent to which ham radio is impeded by Home Owner association rules and deed restrictions. The meeting was adjourned at 7:16 PM, after which WA8PGE, W8NFT, KD8UT, and K8QJ gave various talks and demonstrations of software defined ham radios.
