The CRES Amateur Radio Club held its fifth general membership meeting of the year on Monday, 18 October 2010, at the Karl Road branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library. The following members and guests were in attendance: K8RSP Dave Woolf - President K8LJ Bob Kenyon - Vice President KD8WK Rob Stampfli - Secretary W3CRZ Bob Cartwright - Treasurer KD8ZG Art Grandle - VE Liaison N9CX Bill Erwin - Past President WA8LBZ Al Mecozzi KD8DZ Mike Mickelson W8NFT Doug Gibbs KD8LUW Duane Vanone K8AX Dave Brown WA8PGE Fred Sass N8WL Steven Katz K8TX Dan Merrick N8VWQ Bob Mayzer K8NQ Weldon Mathews KC8DJR George Kinder WD8EBS Mike Stansbery WD8CZG Gordon Lashley W9MDC Matt Corlett KF8NB Jim Ferguson - guest W8DMR Bill Parker - presenter K8RSP called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. The Secretary's report from the August 19th meeting was approved. W3CRZ gave the Treasurer's report. The Club has $9,201.40 in its various accounts at Telhio. We currently have 46 members. The report was approved. K8RSP told those present that WD8CZG had donated four door prizes which would be raffled after the meeting. KD8ZG reported that our next VE session will be in December, most likely on the first Saturday. It appears there are more VE tests at this time than there is demand, so session attendance may be low. Art stated Internet Coordinator Tate Antrim/WD8QFV has agreed to look into creating an online signup web page which will spit out the proper forms, partially filled in, in order to make the registration process easier. K8RSP said that there had been two recurring complaints about the repeater: (1) It has been noted that the output power sometimes fluctuates. Dave suspects the problem is in the power amp. He intends to pull the amp being used and replace it with a spare to see if this resolves the problem. If it does, he will attempt to recreate the condition on the bench. Dave remarked that this is an old Motorola amp we bought off of Ebay, and he wondered if perhaps it was time to look into purchasing a new commerical amplifier. (2) There have been some low-sensitivity issues with our receivers, both main and remote, but these do not appear to be correlated to the dips in power output. The Repeater Committee continues to monitor the situation. K8RSP also asked for volunteers for a Nominations Committee to prepare a candidates list for the election of next year's officers, which will take place at our December meeting. K8LJ and W3CRZ indicated the Certs for the 2009 CQ-WE contest are being finalized and will be emailed and/or paper-mailed soon. In response to an inquiry, W3CRZ said he did not have the official results from the Club's participation in the 2010 OSPOTA event, but he thought we had made about 60 contacts, and contacted about 30 parks. The meeting was adjourned at 7:15 PM after which Bill Parker/W8DMR gave a scintillating (literally) talk on how a PN junction works and how this may be used to create an LED. Respectfully submitted, Rob Stampfli / KD8WK CRES-ARC Secretary
