The CRES ARC held its fourth meeting of the year on Thursday, August 25, at the New Albany branch of the Columbus Public Library. The meeting was called to order by President K8LJ at 6:43 pm. The following people were in attendance: K8LJ Bob Kenyon President N4HAI Tom Foy Vice President KD8WK Rob Stampfli Secretary W3CRZ Bob Cartwright Treasurer K8RSP Dave Woolf Station Trustee - Bob Perdue K8NQ Weldon Mathews N8VWQ Bob Mayzer - Richard Downs KD8DZ Mike Mickelson K8ON David Jeffords WB8ZTP Mark Pogany N9CX Bill Erwin W8UL John Tipka N8OGI Greg Stout KD8VJX Jerry Griffin K8AX Dave Brown N4DLR George Foy N8WL Steve Katz W8NFT Doug Gibbs KD8OQA Martin Hohl K8TX Dan Merrick III WA8LBZ Al Mecozzi - Don Larsen WD8JLP Mike Neal KC8HIH Tricia Kovacs KD8RTP John Buck KE8CRM Russell Ward KC8DJR George Kinder Richard Downs, a visitor and friend of presenter David Rouse, introduced himself, as did Don Larsen, a friend of W3CRZ's. The minutes of the June meeting were approved. Treasurer W3CRZ reported the club has $7007.85 in the treasury and 44 paid members. K8LJ noted that several regulars within the club cannot be considered paid members because they have been remiss at paying their yearly dues. The club does not drop people from the email lists or otherwise sanction them for non-payment of dues, but our dues remain at a reasonable $10/yr, so those who haven't paid should consider renewing their memberhsip. K8LJ reported for KD8ZG, who is in Florida attending the wedding of his grandson, on the VE session held at the Columbus Hamfest earlier in the month. The team administered exams to 11 candidates, of which three earned Tech licenses, four earned General, and one earned Extra. The team is trying a new system based on rules imposed by the Dayton Hamvention test team. In particular, no cell phones or personal calculators will be permitted during the administration of an exam. The club will have calculators available for use on an as-needed basis. K8RSP reported on the repeater: The .67 machine's power amp either blew a fuse or had one go bad earlier in the month. In any event, the fuse was replaced and the problem has not recurred. Dave is continuing to work on getting the kinks worked out of the new Yaesu Fusion repeater and hopes to have it ready to replace our existing repeater on the air this fall. K8LJ reported several changes have been made to the EchoLink system, and it was working well, although it was not clear which change made the difference. N4HAI thanked K8AX for arranging the speaker for tonight's meeting. Tom said he was working on getting speakers from Yaesu and Elecraft for future meetings and solicited suggestions of future topics from the membership. There was no old business. K8LJ said we have thus far not committed to having the club participate in the OSPOTA -- The Ohio State Parks on the Air -- event, and we need someone to step forward and lead the effort if we are indeed going to do so. The meeting was adjourned at 7:10 after which K8AX introduced David Rouse, a friend and former colleague of many of the membership, who gave an in-depth talk on the energy-efficient solar home he had designed and built. Respectfully submitted, Rob Stampfli, KD8WK CRES-ARC Secretary
